In architecture, proportion is how the sizes of different parts of a building relate to each other and to the structure as a whole.
Proportion is what makes the parts of a building feel like they belong together.
It determines how height relates to width, spaces relate to one another, and details relate to the whole. Good proportion creates balance, harmony, and a sense of order—often without us consciously noticing it.
But proportion is not simply about making everything equal or symmetrical. It is about finding the right relationship between elements.
A well-proportioned building can feel comfortable, coherent, and intentional. When proportion is wrong, even a beautifully designed element can feel out of place.
In architecture, proportion is the quiet logic that holds the design together.
